Important information about access to Christ the Redeemer during the works

During the replacement of the escalators and the installation of the inclined elevators, starting on August 3, 2026, access to the Christ the Redeemer viewing platform will remain available.

The route will remain unchanged up to the second floor of Alto Corcovado, using the regular elevators and the stone stairways. From the second floor, access to the platform will be available only via the stone stairways.

For visitors with reduced mobility (wheelchair users or visitors with other mobility limitations), stair-climbing vehicles and chairs will be available, boarding at the ICMBio Visitor Assistance Center (CAV-ICMBio), located on the second floor.

Please note that:

• the stair-climbing vehicles carry standard wheelchairs only;
• the stair-climbing vehicles and chairs do not operate on wet surfaces or in rainy conditions;
• standard wheelchairs will be available for loan when needed. In these cases, the visitor must be transferred to the wheelchair by their companion or family member.

Visitors without reduced mobility should also be aware of the physical effort required for the route. From the train arrival area to the Christ the Redeemer platform there are 220 steps along the stone stairway. During the works, part of this route will still be covered by the three regular elevators, leaving a final stretch of approximately 80 steps from the second floor (CAV-ICMBio).

To ensure greater safety, comfort, and better organization of visits during the works, the maximum number of simultaneous visitors at Alto Corcovado will be reduced.
